Musasa ECD and Kindergarten school

About This Project
In the remote coffee hills of Dukunde Kawa, women carry a double burden: demanding harvest work and the weight of motherhood. With no safe place to leave their children, toddlers are left vulnerable, to malnutrition, neglect, and the harsh edges of an unyielding workday. For mothers, the choice between a paycheck and a child’s well-being was an impossible one, often leading to absenteeism, reduced productivity, or the unaffordable cost of a caregiver. Then came transformation. With support from the Australian coffee community, the Rambagirakawa women coffee group built a solution: an Early Childhood Development center, right where mothers work. Today, this haven cares for 92 children, and its impact runs deep. Children are healthier and happier, gaining nearly 200 grams each month. Their days are now filled with song, play, and the quiet shaping of futures once uncertain. For mothers, the change is equally profound. Work efficiency has risen by over 30 percent. Absenteeism has all but disappeared. Incomes have grown. But the greatest gain is priceless: peace of mind. A daily nutritious meal, grown in the center’s own garden, is fighting stunting and teaching parents sustainable practices they carry home. What began as childcare has become a holistic model for community health. And we are not stopping there. Soon, this center will expand into a full kindergarten, welcoming 200 toddlers into early learning that prepares them for primary school, and for a future far beyond the coffee fields.
